He had softly and suddenly vanished away---For the Snark was a Boojum, you see.

So I left you with knowing that it was Picasso's birthday. No party, just a quiet family affair. Brooke bought a nice cake, there was a bit of juice, we were all happy.

It was to be a celebration of Picasso becoming a child and

Sadly Dad wasn't to see the cake being cut. While Picasso, Brooke and Hans were celebrating life, Death was here as well.

Dad was 101 and he knew that the Reaper was coming soon. He had stubbornly waited until a Monday night, his last week of royalties were safely in the family coffers since Sunday at noon.

You would have thought that the Reaper was an old friend. Maybe he was, Dad has lost a lot of his friends now. And Brooke's mom as well.

Damn Dad, couldn't you yell John Edward Grant just one more time for me? I'd give anything for that.

Mom slept in the new bed that was to be Picasso's room. She just wouldn't go near the bed that she shared with dad.  Alaina and I ended up in what had been Mom and Dad's room.

  1. Technical notes - I decided to go with short and mainly about one thing instead of far longer and less potential impact.

Watching Sam being claimed by the reaper isn't too bad any more but it's certainly not the first time. Trying to write up about Sam and the reaper - for that bit I got soppy as hell.

The awesome placement of Sam's portrait, urn, ghost Sam and the Reaper was *entirely* a coincidence.

Then I got to play that part again - the game didn't save and I had to bring Johnny and Alaina back from China again. Again Sam died while Picasso was aging up. Poor Picasso, his granddad was determined to steal the limelight. This time all is saved.

  2. It is so sad to see Sammy go even if he was really old.

The first thing I noticed when he was going to meet the reaper was the picture of him there. Now his beautiful urn sits right under it.

Poor Ripley. She's lost her one true love and the kids have lost a wonderful Dad.
We have lost our Sammy. So sad but he left behind a wonderful family and now he gets to see his River again.

  3. The shot of Ripley laying alone in the twin bed is very moving. She looks likes she's just waiting, waiting for her turn and her Sammy.

Well, done, PiB. Sorry you had to go through this more than once.

  4. Yes, Sam had no regrets about the Reaper, but the family is in deep mourning.

Ripley and the twin bed was a surprise. I thought John Edward and Alaina would be sharing the tent until Ripley meets the Reaper. But she went to bed in the new bed on her own. I think she is ready - but Johnny isn't going to be.

  5. Ripley doesn't do well when her mate dies. It's usually better for her to go first. At least that's been the case the times I've played her throughout her lifetime. Blogged and non-blogged.

She'll probably spend most of her time painting.

  6. I hope Johnny and Alaina give her a grandchild to enjoy before she meets the Reaper.

  7. Alas Dee, at the rate Johnny is going, Ripley will be lucky if she sees her son married - a baby doesn't seem likely.

Yes, she is painting quite a bit. I have to keep an eye on things when someone finishes a painting or Ripley will start another one on any empty easel, even when she has a couple started already.

  8. I've had artistic sims that would start paintings on as many easels as they could find.

Well, Johnny is going to just have to get busy.;)

  9. Given that everyone in the house is meant to earn money via art - just because - we have a lot of easels. Sam only painted when I asked him to but Ripley and Brooke both love it.

Johnny certainly can get busy - and then a quicky wedding is in order. It won't be the first time that's happened to a Grant. Ripley is at 90 days so the Reaper can happen at any time.

I still am amazed by that first picture - Brooke and Picasso are just about to blow out the candle and Sam is just starting to be claimed by the Reaper. How rude, poor Sam didn't get to see his grandson grow to child.

  10. Yeah that Reaper is a cruel one. He could have at least waited a few more minutes or until everyone was asleep and let him go peacefully in his sleep.

    Woohoo for Johnny boy!

  11. I've never had the Reaper come for someone asleep. He always gets them when awake and preferably distracted by some other event.

Johnny boy has definitely had some woohoo. :)

  12. Oh man... Talk about tragedy. :( Deaths at birthday parties are always so heartbreaking. The Reaper either has no sense of humor, or a really bad sense of humor. :P

Poor Ripley, too. Being alone and heartbroken is so miserable for a Sim, but I do hope she's able to stick around long enough to see Johnny get married.

The painting and the urn right below it is so awesome. Those types of coincidences are the best!

  13. Yes, the Reaper loves to crash parties to take someone away.

I think the worst off was actually Picasso. He had to go to school for 2 days deeply depressed which means he'll never be a good student in elementary. Most of the rest of the family worked off their grief by their art.

  14. This story is on hold for a bit. One version of Twallan's super computer had a bug and if you sent a pregnant Sim to the new Stylist - it would wipe out their normal outfits. Brooke cannot sleep, bathe, or exercise. She pops back and forth out of existance if you ask her to do any of these things.

    a) I think I could go back to the save before Sam's death and try again.
    b) I could annihlate Brooke and put a Brooke clone in her place.
    c) I will wait and see if Twallan has a suggestion for fixing a Sim that has no outfits.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That's terrible. I hope Twallan can tell you how to fix it and you don't have to watch him die all over again.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Actually, I think the easiest of the three solutions is to completely remove the glitched Brooke and replace her with a clone. She won't know as many people in town as the real Brooke but I can rebuild her family tree and relations.

Hmm, if I could work out when Brooke got preggie clothes - I might be able to fetch the saved game via Mac Timemachine and have lower loses. The previous save I know I have is just after Johnny and Alaina age up.

  17. Ack, PiB! What a horrible and bizarre bug. Maybe this will make him rethink eliminating the dresser in favor of going to the stylist.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Pib, Twallan has an answer for you. I hope it works.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hmmm, he's guessing but hasn't tested it.

So Chrysame and Kaleeko, be careful to *check* the version of MasterController you have before updating pregnancy clothes. V4 is bad!

The save from mac's time machine is just post Johnny getting home but it's just before Sam dies. But at least I *know* the family is ok. I might just go with this one again.

  20. How did you update the pregnancy clothes, PiB? Did you actually go to the stylist or did you use the dresser?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I used the stylist from v4 of mastercontroller. Turns out to have been a bad idea with a preggy Sim.

    ReplyDelete
  22. All I was doing was using the Create a style kit...could have done that from a regular dresser I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I haven't tried the stylist, yet. I'm very glad I stuck with the dresser. I hope he's definitely got it fixed with this new version. He's generally good about fixes.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Huh, I must have had an old version of the mod if I still had dresser available.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks for letting us know, PiB. I updated my mod again as soon as I saw that. Thank goodness Twallan is so responsible for his mods, he always fixes things so fast. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. You guys also have his The Dresser mod which you might be using to make clothes changes. I didn't have that installed and the Stylist is the newer way to do things using MasterController.

The bad version of Stylist does leave a Sim unplayable. Brooke couldn't have a baby at the hospital, she suddenly popped home. No showers, no bed cause she was in day clothes...very very bad.

  27. Okay, the shot of Sam's ghost next to his portrait = big, BIG, huge lump in throat. Excuse me, I have something in my eye. I'll read more after I get it out.

  28. Thanks Sue.

It was a satisfied Sam being claimed by the Reaper. He had done well and lived quite the long life.

Poor Ripley though, she was never quite the same after. The thing with her using a different bed on her own was sad and sweet.
